Presented below, our previous rumors and news about the '04 line:

January 9, 2003--2003 has only just begun, but here's a look ahead at what we may be seeing from Campagnolo for 2004 (based on information from an anonymous source):

  • New Vento wheelset will feature G3 spoking front and rear, a 24mm rim, and black finishing on the rims and hubs.  Campagnolo plans to reduce the price to make this wheelset more attractive to the entry-level market; Ventos will only be available to the OEM market (you will only find these wheels on built bikes, not as a separate item).
  • Zonda wheels will be "renewed" for 2004, with radial front spoking, G3 at the rear, and an HPW hub on the rear wheel.
  • Four wheelsets--Zonda, Proton, Scirocco, and Vento, will be available as "OEM" only.  Ghibli, Bora, Hyperon, Neutron, Eurus, and Pista wheelsets will be available for aftermarket purchase.
  • Mirage will offer a new "Stealth" finish and a new front hub with sealed bearings.
  • Veloce will be available in both 9- and 10-speed models, both with double or triple cranksets.
  • Centaur gets a new Hiddenset headset, an all-aluminum seatpost, and an optional finish called "Eclipse."  The new finish will add slightly to the price of the gruppo.

Updated May 16, 2003--Photos from the 2004 range!  Check out the very cool grey finish coming for Centaur.  Click on any image below for a larger version.

What's coming for Record next year?  Starting at top left . . .

  • Ergo levers get 18 grams lighter, and now bear the label "10 Ultra"  Better shifting is promised.

  • The carbon crankset gets updated with a spider reminiscent of the C-Record crankset.  (We're predicting that the 2003 Record crankset becomes the Chorus carbon crankset next year.)  The rings will feature an anti-friction coating.

  • The rear derailleur gets a carbon cage.  Better shifting and quieter operation are promised.

  • The front derailleur gets a carbon cage!  This almost completes the carbonizing of the Record gruppo, which now features the woven black carbon look on every part but the brake calipers and hubs.

  • The Record chain gets drilled-out links--and gets 19 grams lighter.

  • Record gets a totally new part a carbon bottle cage!  Way cool, and just 18 grams.

  • The Record seatpost will come in three lengths, and will feature a carbon clamp.  The "Record" logo also gets bigger and will be placed on the side of the post (where it can be more easily seen).

  • It's not carbon, but the Record brakeset will come in a black finish to complement the rest of the gruppo.
