Miche cassette

Frist off I am new here and been useing campy for as long as I can remember.
I currently I ride 9 speed and am getting ready to upgrade to 10. I was
looking for a cassette and noticed Miche. Does any one have any experience
with these?

from what i have read - about as good as Veloce. So unless less than $40 probably not worth it.

I have one, primarily because Campag don't do the ratios I wanted in 10sp.

The quality is fine. The cassette is made of individual sprockets and each and every one is replaceable. They are ripe for chopping and changing the sprockets as we used to be able to do in the old days with screw-on freewheels.

The coating seems to be better than my previous cassette - 2006 Centaur - and is definitely shinier. The Centaur was dull and boring. Even my old Mirage cassettes were nicer looking than the Centaur.

Campag cassettes are "timed" by having ramps to aid shifting. I was told that if you mix and match Campag sprockets they don't change gear too well. I don't know about that, but I was worried about the Miche as it has no timing ramps at all. I need not have worried, it changes gear as sweetly as any Campag I've ever had!

Swapping to Miche was an inspired move for me. As good as Campag, looks nicer, and has separate renewable sprockets.

Highly recommended.

at my favorite store - Ribble, where everything just got cheaper again thanks to our wonderful canadian $$, there is only one Miche size available in 10spd, against a good selection of mirage, veloce and centaur cassettes at same or better prices. just saying.

Thanks for all the advice. My main concern was the shifting. I have seen some
for some excellent prices.

free advice about the upgrade to 10 speed is available here too. it's looking like 2000-2006 was the golden age.

The first campy bike I got came with the early version Record 10 speed ergos, the ones that have "BB System" on them. Still have them and think they are the best of the lot along with the matching RD. The later ones were "Ultra" and still OK IMO. Personally I'd avoid the "QS" versions of 2007-8, and at all costs the Centaur QS levers which came with the downscale escape mech and no ability to trim the FD properly. BB System levers still show up on eBay - sometimes with little or no use.

I've got a Miche 12-27 10 speed cassette - haven't fitted it yet so can't comment on how well it runs. I got it because I wanted to run a 12 sprocket on a compact with a bigger large sprocket than the 12-25 standard Campag offering (to replace the 13-29 I'm using currently). It's very shiny - but the chrome plating has already lifted off one tooth without it even being used. This may be just cosmetic but I have read - but never actually seen - of people experiencing teeth breaking off of these cassettes. As MickF says the sprockets aren't timed so you can assemble them how you want - if you can get the sprockets. R J Chicken import Miche stuff to the UK and supply many LBS's. They import a 12-27 cassette but not a 12-29, not sure if they can supply individual sprockets and spacers.

Ambrosio also supply 10 speed Campag spaced cassettes (for both Campag and ShimaNO splined hubs). The finish on these is good - on a par with old Veloce 9 speed cassettes and they're timed sprockets too. They supply a 12-27 and a 12-28 amongst others. Again I haven't fitted and used the one I have but it will be my first choice when I get round to it. I'll post when I do.

My problem with the stock Miche cassette was that the sprockets weren't of the right tooth numbers for me. The ratio spacing was all wrong.

Campag 13-29 is fine, but they won't/can't supply a properly spaced ratio 12-29 in 10sp. 11sp is fine as 12-29, but nothing in 10sp comes near.

Therefore I had supplied exactly what I wanted. Not cheap, but it's EXACTLY what I wanted.

Yes, you sometimes get some strange jumps in stock cassettes (do you remember the days went you went to the LBS and they made you the block you wanted from the Maillard board?). I'll check out the sprockets on the Ambrosio cassette when I get the chance and post for you. It may be a cheaper option for you going forward - but if you can replace individual Miche sprockets it sounds like you're sorted. If the Miche sprockets aren't timed maybe you can reverse them when they're worn just like the old Maillard sprockets!

That is the advantage I was looking for in the Miche, replacing individual cogs to get the ratio I wanted.
And just replacing them as they wear out and not having to buy a cluster.

MickF, the Ambrosio 12-27 is 12,13,14,15,17,19,21,23,25,27.
