Need 10Speed hub/front hub

Postby scantar » Sun Oct 24, 2010 7:06 pm

Hi all...new to the board and found it just in time! Looking for a 10 speed hub, preferrably Record (or compatible quality) as well as a front hub for a wheelset build.

Thanks!

email to bikeyourbest@gmail.com or reply to the board, please and thanks!

I assume you are talking the classic previous gen hubs?

Prices on NOS Record hubs are crazy.

These are virtually identical and reasonable price:

Hoping to find a newer gen set of 10s hubs without involving too much brain damage. Failing that, I'll either sell plasma and buy new or cannibalize my Protons and step down from my Record need for now.

The current Campy hubs got pretty crappy reviews from the experts when they came out.

I you want new, here they are http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/pp/road-track-bike/Hubs-Road/HUBR

I don't think you will find too many used.

There's other forums with long wheelbuilding threads that may offer more suggestions.

They're totally different and over-priced.

Hubs below the Record level made after 2006 have cheap cartridge bearings instead of the traditional cup-and cone.

If that's not acceptable you need older hubs (1999-2006 Record/Chorus/Centaur/Daytona differ only in the quick release, grease port on Record hubs, and titanium Record pawl carrier which saves 10g; and other 1997-1999 9 speed hubs are cup-and-cone) or current Record hubs (identical to the 1999-2006 line except they don't have a separate pawl carrier and have a different axle to go with the new freehub).

If it's fine you can get NOS Mirage hubs made in 2000 or later for not a lot of money (E-bay currently shows rears for $37 shipped) which presumably still have nice Campagnolo forgings with coined spoke holes, or inexpensive non-Campagnolo hubs (Miche)
