Non Standard Cassette?

I have an idea of assembling a non-standard cassette as I would like a higher gear but still maintain the lower gears I have.

To this aim, at present, I have a 10sp 13-29 (2006) Centaur cassette:
13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 21, 23, 26, 29.

I would like:
12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22, 25, 29.

Is this possible?

If its a 2006 aren't the 26 & 29 paired? Anyway someone may correct me but I don't think there is such a thing as a 20T or a 22T. edit i just checked - there are such things but you'd have to buy a 14-23 cassette, which I've never come across, to do it.

I think the easiest way is to get a hold of a 12T, change the 13T and lose the 16T from the cassette you have.

or go compact 50-34 with:

11 12 13 14 15 17 19 21 23 25

Yes, they are paired.

I didn't want to just add/subtract what I already have, but get hold a complete set if possible. I've looked at the Campag spares, and yes, there are some missing from my list! Perhaps I want something that doesn't exist in the stock range.

By changing to 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22, 25, 29 I would get even steps - or as even as possible.

The option of going to 11sp would be better than going compact. That way, I could get a 12-29 in 11 cogs, but it's a very expensive way: Cassette, Chain, RH Ergo. Other than that, Compact is another way, as you rightly suggest, but that's another expensive conversion: Chainset and Bottom Bracket and a Cassette. Also Compact wouldn't give me the range, as I'm Chorus Triple 53/42/30.

My idea - providing I could get the cogs, is a simple and least cost way.
Do any other manufacturers make Campag compatible 10sp cogs?

I must say that all the Campag cassettes I've had have been excellent, and wonder if another make will be as good.

Miche Primato 10sp Cassette 12-29
Just done some research and a couple of telephone calls, and I'm not impressed.

The Miche Primato 10sp is only available as:
12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29
There's far too large a gap between 13 and 15. Where's the 14?

The chap I spoke to seemed quite proud of the fact that there was a tooth difference at the beginning, then only 2 teeth difference throughout. I think it's not good at all!

By going 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22, 25, 29 the differences in ratio as as constant as you can get. This is what I want! As they don't do individual sprockets, it looks like I'm stuffed.

Back in the olden days, you could buy every single sprocket and make up a custom freewheel of anything you wanted. I used to use Suntour Ultra 6sp and latterly 7sp. I would re-gear to suit my rides and terrain. All I want is to have a 10sp cassette 12-29 in even ratio steps. Looks like I'm stuffed and have to make do with what I have at present.

I tried to see about Marchisio cassettes, and found out that they don't do a 29t sprocket, but you can have anything else you want.
Also, the cost of them is prohibitive.

I'll leave it .............

You can still buy Campy cog individually, but it's pricey, and they are timed, so mixing and matching wouldn't work so well. Since when doesn't Miche sell individual cogs? A few years ago that was their selling point. They aren't Campy quality, but their deal is making Campy compatible product.

I telephoned Evans Cycles http://www.evanscycles.com/products/mic ... e-ec021540 and they told me there were no spares to change the specifications.

One thing I don't know about these cassettes, is whether the are "timed" and if you can mix and the cogs. I understand you can't do that with Campagnolo.

To finish this story off, jazclrint got in touch with me and arranged a set for me. They arrived through the post last week, I fitted them yesterday and had a 17 mile test ride today. Perfect!

The Miche cassette ran smoothly and changed gear sweetly. I think that it's actually better than the Campag Centaur I've been using the past couple of years! This is a revelation to me, as I expected that a timed cassette would be better than one without ramps and any sort of assistance. Maybe the timing on cassettes is a red herring designed to lure folk into paying more? No clunks, rattles or hesitations. Just perfection.

The Miche cassette fitted easily, and the Campag lockring bedded in well. I took the liberty to re-grease the hub whilst I was in there too. The cassette is shiny and sparkles like chrome, the Centaur one is dull in comparison.

All gear combinations could be selected with ease and with no issues whatsoever. Big/big and small/small were ok.

Time will tell if the sprockets wear well, but as of today, I'm one happy bunny!
