The skewers are alloy and of the era 2000 - 2006. I took the skewers to the Australian Campagnolo distributor and they advised that this was definitely a manufacturing error. They actually offered to replace them but then advised that they thought they were no longer available. I doubt there was any need for a customer recall because any wheel builder would notice this and send these back. What I suspect has occurred is that Campagnolo have sold their old stock (including seconds) and they have made their way onto e-Bay. Also if you look at all the catalogues (I checked 2004-2006) they clearly show knurling on the skewer nuts. My advice would be to ask before you buy on e-bay at present. I would not risk using these skewers and the e-Bay seller is not wanting to accept these back so it looks like I get defective skewers and he gets a negative rating. Alister
