2006 Campy Record Wishlist?

Postby Guest » Fri Feb 04, 2005 6:18 am

Before the project engineers/managers sign off and seals the design of the 2006 version of the Record, what are the likely improvements or desirables would we like to see on a new version of the Record? Let's list them down:

1. Stiffer oversize BB system
2. Better ergonomic hoods/more comfortable hoods
3. Lighter weight with more carbon and magnesium? (Eg. Campy engineers check out magnesium thixomolding....)
4. Built in Ergobrain?
5. Stronger lighter brakes
6. Electronic shifting without batteries/self generating power? Rear D or BB power tap? Cordless/wireless technology still iffy....

Rear D or BB power tap?

That would be a really great piece of kit.
Just how popular would that be? Very popular IMHO, depending on the price of course!
I can't see it happening in the near future, but we can live in hope!

Have we all given up on a wireless ergobrain?

From the July 05 Campy Club newsletter:

CT aluminium cranksets

The 2006 range includes compact aluminium cranksets dedicated to Centaur, Veloce and Mirage Groupsets.
The specialized sector chainrings are recognizable by the eight pins, that is by the special finishes designed to make the chain lift up and descend always at the most effective point.
Tests run at our laboratories have shown that shifting is 19% faster than with the previous 6-pin version.
CT cranksets will be available with 34-50, 36-50, 34-48 chainrings for the Centaur model and with 34-50 and 34-48 chainrings for the Veloce and Mirage models.

Record Ultra Narrow chain

The Record groupset this year presents the new Record 10s Ultra Narrow chain that is just 5.9-mm wide. Owing to its dimensions, the new version is lighter and quieter and facilitates adjustment of the rear derailleur. Chain links and pins are hollow so that the chain weighs only 255 g in all.

The tests run in our laboratories have shown that traction force, pin retention force, wear, resistance to stretch, torsion and flection are the same as for the Record 10s chain.

I sure hope the new chain uses the existing tool!

It is almost time for me to buy a new chain, so I'd like to get the new one... Any ideas who would be most likely to offer this chain first? Or do you think it will take several months for the new Campy stuff to get into distribution?

So far I'm very happy with the existing chain... I'm at less than 0.5% stretch after 4,000 miles... It does mark up the larger cogs like you mentioned, though...

I've seen the non-hollow pin C10 chains for $35 on sale at Supergo... I like the hollow-pin version just for the looks, which I know is a silly reason... I can get those for $50 which isn't too bad for maybe 5,000 miles... I figure the one I have now is good for at least another 1,000 miles...

Right now I measure the chain with a Park CC-2 at 4-5 different places every time I lube the chain... The chain initially measured between .25 and .5% for the first 3,000 miles and only recently has it started to get closer to .5% all around... It is kind of weird how different sections of the chain will measure different...
