Converting a Campy Victory crank set to a triple

Postby MennoX » Wed May 19, 2004 12:35 pm

It has been done. does anyone know the detaills? I have 35, 42, 53 teeth chain rings.

What bottom bracket would need to go with this?

I have acomplete campy Victory groupo, front and rear deraillers, etc on a Univega Ital Sport bike from the 1980's

It has a S-bottom bracket that I know nothing about and would like to convert to Campy.

See my reply to your other post. To convert to a triple Victory crank with an English bottom bracket, you will need a 112mm bottom bracket, asymmetric (2mm offset on the drive side).

Converting to botton bracket - deep chainring bolts

Postby systemBuilder » Fri Jun 04, 2004 12:21 am

www.biketoolsetc.com has triple chainring bolt sets (intended to hold all 3 rings at the same time). you can also buy from them an inner chainring bolt set (10 pieces), 5 bolts which you discard, and 5 crucial spacers which presumably would make your conversion complete. Total cost for both sets is about $10.

Are there any other sources for chainring bolts and spacers to make a victory or triomphe crankset into a triple ?? One thing that would be really nice would be DEEP inner chainring nuts, so that you could use BREV CAMPAGNOLO bolts on your triple.

I am quite surprised that a 112 mm Bottom Bracket is what is needed. Regular nuovo record is 112 mm (R+3), and i had assumed that an extra 5 mm or so would be needed, e.g. a 117(R+6) mm bottom bracket spindle would be what is needed - same as a Nuovo Record Triple. Aren't Victory BB's and Nuovo Record BB's compatible? I thought the idea behind Victory was to leverage some Nuovo record components (print spares) for a few more years ...

Check out Peter White for the chainring conversion

He sells triple conversion chainrings where the middle ring has the mounts for the inner ring built in. He lists these in 144 BCD, which I believe fit your Victory cranks.

Victory Triple Cranks

Postby systemBuilder » Fri Jul 16, 2004 5:26 pm

Victory (and Triomphe) cranksets use the rather unusual 116 bcd. These rings are unique. Luckily, wwcyclery (on ebay) and http://www.bicycleclassics.com/ both offer replacement rings, in particular, 35T and 36T inner rings. This is where I got the inner rings for my 2 triple cranksets.
