Centaur Brake Pads Compatibility?

Postby Guest » Fri Jul 28, 2006 3:17 pm

Hi There -

Quick question for you experts. A friend gave me two complete sets of Campy brake pads. They are marked differently on the back and I was wondering if they are both compatible? They are marked as follows.

CAMPAGNOLO - DX

CAMPAGNOLO - SX

Are either of these compatible with last year's Centaur brakes?

Thanks in advance

DX = Right Side
SX = Left Side

The Italian words for right and left must be similar to the Latin words "dextra" and "sinistra". You'll find similar markings on the buttons to be installed in ergo levers for use with an ergobrain computer.

As far as compatibility is concerned, there are 2 main types of brake pads currently available from Campagnolo. If my memory serves correct, the brake pads that will fit your centaur levers have a series of "V" shaped grooves in the braking surface. If they have diagonal curved lines in the grooves they will not work.

I'm at a friends house and don't have my bikes or parts with me so this is all from memory, but if I'm wrong somebody set us straight.

Thanks for the reply, I sort of feel a bit silly.

I thought the Centuar holders and pads were the same as Record?

Anyways these pads do have diagonal curved lines (3). What brakes would these work for?

Thanks again...

Hmmm, I see...

So are these pads for Campy Record? If they are, I have no use for them, as I don't think I'll be getting Record brakes anytime soon.

Thanks again

This eBay ad states these pads are compatible with several models, including Centaur. Maybe my luck is changing after all...

Kool Stop makes replacement pads for Campy that they claim are compatible with current Record, Chorus and Centaur. Except for possibly the mounting bolts, the pad holders look identical.

On inspection of my stuff I found that I got my compatibilites backward. Those pads will work with your centaur brakes just fine. Pads with the "V" shaped grooves are for the older (pre '99 I believe) brakes.
