Look pedals were introduced in 1984, first ridden in the pro peloton in 1985. (B. Hinault)
ShimaNO licensed the patent in 1988

Righto!!

I got my first Look's in 1986 and my first ShimaNO's (actually made in France by Look unless ShimaNO, much to my surprise, had a factory in France back then - but at least the pedals had "Made in France" stamped on them) in 1989.

I got them in 1989. I have no idea when they were made. But they did say (well, not exactly, as pedals as well as other components can't talk) "Made in France"!!

I'm disappointed to hear the pro-fit pedals are on the way out. I used Look for years with no issues, but the Record pro-fit pedals I've been using for the last 4 years or so have bearings with much lower rolling resistance than anything else I've used. Admittedly, they're overpriced and the cleats aren't the most common item on the market, but I've had years of solid service from mine.
