I have a campagnolo framed bike and would like to put a date

I'm not aware of Campagnolo ever actually producing a bike itself. I think you have another frame with a Campy sticker on it.

maybe it was a bike like this, or a bike with Campagnolo dropouts?

You can buy a new or used rear wheel that is a clincher, wire bead that uses a standard inner tube. You should probably buy one for the front since it does not sound like you are familiar with the use and maintenance of a tubular. You could probably find a decent set of wheels with a six speed freewheel at a local shop or maybe on e-bay. The price should not be too bad since the technology is out of date, unless you want to buy a mint set of super Record hubs laced up to some Mavic open 4's.

update on frame

thanks for advice on rims. Having looked at bike again it isn't a rare 'alata' campagnolo team frame (worst luck) but one with a pair of campy dropouts. I'll get some cheap wheels to put it back on road. Thanks again.
