I would love to purchase new '05 9 spd shifters and rear der. but they are hard to find. So, can I convert 10 spd shifters and rear der. to 9 spd? Thanks

ok, I found what I needed online. Converting 10 to 9 shifters is as easy as changing the index ring. Campagnolo's website FAQ page says you can't convert a 10 rear der. to a 9 system. Online I found several people swapping pulleys to the 9 and it working fine. A trusted mechanic told me the same. So, guess I'm getting 10 speed shifters and der. and converting them to 9 speed. Yippee, more lucious carbon!

Yes, it's no problem at all - I've changed several sets of 10spd to 9spd and vice versa. Be aware that you also need the small index ring that goes above the shift lever - they're different for 9 and 10spd (although a 10spd one might work, but the small ring is very cheap anyway).

You only need to change the small ratchet ring if you go from 10 to 8.
If you are only making a one gear change ie. 10 to 9 or 9 to 8, then you dont need to change the small ratchet ring.
If you would convert a new set of 10 speed ergos to 8 then Campy reccomends changing the small gear in the front.
