8-speed shifter parts availability?

Postby bengusty » Sun Sep 12, 2010 6:11 pm

One of my bikes has nice Campy Record hubs with a seven-speed Sachs freewheel. I'm thinking of a getting a pair of 8-speed Ergo shifters to go with it, as the spacing for the 8-speed shifters and the Sachs freewheel seem to be the same. It looks like 1997 was the last year the 8-speed shifters were made, and the sources I've seen for spare parts, like Branford, have parts catalogs that start from 1998. Will I be out of luck or forced to troll eBay for old shifters to cannibalize if I go the 8-speed shifter route and need parts?

Thanks,

The G-springs which wear out most frequently are still available, but have revised part numbers EC-RE209 (right)/EC-RE210 (left).

Campagnolo discontinued the thumb lever return springs (right EC-RE015) which get replaced a lot less often.

Campagnolo also discontinued the right spring carrier (EC-RE011) which rarely break but seem to work when broken in the composite bodied shifter (the perimeter is fully supported by the shifter body). Branford Bike still has a few left for $25 each.

I've never worn out anything else other than the hoods and brake lever bumpers which are both still available (although I couldn't say whether Campagnolo is still making them or there's still old stock rattling around).
