Can I use this derailleur for 8 speed?

Just want to chime in that I once tried using a 9 speed derailleur with a shiftmare on an otherwise all 8 speed setup. It worked for 6 out of 8 gears and the middle two cogs were sloppy and chatty. I finally found an 8 speed derailleur and all is well.
