Best strategy for refurbing a campy hub

Postby ibe » Fri Nov 12, 2010 11:09 am

Hi,
I've got a 1980 campy record front hub spoked up (36h) to a matrix iso rim in a
four cross weave that I'd like to hold onto so that means new cones, axles and races.

If I purchase these Ala Carte it's going to add up quickly, so I was thinking of getting another hub via ebay and pulling the guts.
The other alternative is that as a clyde I gave up on my rear campy hub, so maybe the rear races are salvageable and all I'd have to get are new front cones.

The key compatibility concern is whether the races will fit.
Is there a reference somewhere so I can see what range of hubs I can use
and whether the races and/or cones are compatible between front and back ?

Thanks,
ibe

Don't have direct experience with your model hubs. One suggestion is to compare the bearing balls. If same size then I'm guessing you have compatibility with the other bits. However its always the rear that take a much bigger beating, so those might may be worn too. Overall an NOS equivalent hub may be the best bet.
