Campy Pro-Fit Pedals (Record/Chorus)

Postby Jundim » Sat Oct 23, 2004 7:11 pm

Newbie here. Just built a 2004 Eddy Merkcx Leader with full Record Set. A couple of my local bike shops have discouraged me from using the Pro-Fit pedals and suggested Time or Look. They said it's not reliable and high maintenance. It's also more costly than any other system. Can anyone give me any pros and cons about this product. Can anyone suggest a good one to complement my setup. Thanks in advance.

I've been using my record profit pedals for 4 years now with no problems outside of the occasional worn out cleats. The cleats actually seem to last longer than my old looks because they're partially metal. Whoever is telling you about reliability issues must have had a strange occurance, most of the people I know that use the pedals love them. They have the positive engagement and bolt pattern of a look without all the weight. I'd reccomend them to anyone.

Pro fit pedals

I tried these and found them to work great. I did end up replacing them with Look because all my other bikes had Look on them. I didn't want to have to use different shoes for different bikes. I wish the cleats were interchangeable.

Heres a throwback to the mid eighties when 7 speed was the 'in' thing, well at least as far as my pedals go anyway.Try as hard as i can there has not been a pedal that i have found to be any superior in function or overall build quality than the 7401.
The design was perfect, with adjustable ball bearings situated at both ends of the pedal axle,a needle roller in between for added reliability and it was now using the NEW 'look' cleat system, all of this technology was enclosed in an all metal alloy pedal body.
The 7401 was shimaNOs first Dura Ace 'look' compatable pedal system and its heyday it was way ahead of its time, the product was so good that only recently did ShimaNO decide to revamp this dinosaur in the form of the Lance pedal to boost sales.
The market today has its share of lighter designs out there with various composite materials and closer platform to axle distances to reduce the stack height, even titanium axles have be offered in recent years.
However my original 7401s fitted to all my bikes wont die no matter how much miles i put on them, and until they do, i cant see a reason to change such a well designed and manufactured product, even if it did come from the ShimaNO folks in Japan.
