Why a Campy-free zone in and around Charlotte?

A place for Campy fans around the world to share information online.

Sure wish I could walk in someplace around Raleigh and buy Campy small parts.

I think the answer lies with the local distributor reps not aggressively marketing Campy. On the basis of cost and quality, there's no reason why Campy and ShimaNO component lines should not be sharing the market more or less equally. There are a ton of high-end bikes being sold in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, and I expect Charlotte, too, and I'll bet more than 80% are being sold with ShimaNO. Seems like only us old farts are insisting on Campy; the LBS certainly doesn't seem to be trying to sell it to us.

That said, The Spin Cycle in Cary and All-Star at Quail Ridge are listed as Campy Pro-Shops. Xzyzzy, you might check with them for your small part needs. I expect either shop will get you what you need if they don't have it, and won't charge you $7 shipping for a pair of G-springs.

I don't know what I hate more.

ShimaNO, or the traffic in Cary.

:)

PS - I found a local guy who has some "G" springs in stock so I'll try those tonight.

PPS - I've never felt "comfortable" at All-Star. They are right down the street from me and I bought my first bike there, but I just get a weird feeling when I visit. Not sure why. I'm sure they are nice people.

Oh yeah, I converted my first Shimanoite to Campy yesterday. We're building up her Look 585 and instead of her old DA9 we're putting on Record. I couldn't get her to spring for the cranks or brakes, tho. She's using Stronglight Pulsions and 0Gs.

One person at a time and eventually we'll rule the world. Or something.

The traffic in Cary can kill you, while ShimaNO will destroy your soul. Not sure which is worse.

OK, I retract my generational slur. At 37, the better reference is "experienced". But I think you'll agree that it is rare to find younger riders with Campy equipment, at least around here. Since cycling is a life-long sport for those of us that really get the bug, I fear that Campy is missing opportunity to develop long-term brand loyalty by being out-marketed by ShimaNO.
